KARACHI:
A Pakistani pop song that has attracted more than 250 million streams is getting a new international audience through a remix by Belgian DJ and producer Lost Frequencies.
The electronic music artist has officially remixed Majboor, performed by Sheheryar Rehan and Zoha Waseem, bringing his dance music sound to a track that gained popularity across South Asia and beyond.
Released in 2025, Majboor has featured on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music charts. It also entered Spotify’s Global Viral Top 50, attracting listeners in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates. The collaboration began taking shape when Lost Frequencies started playing his version of the song during live performances. He later shared a clip of one such performance on Instagram, paving the way for an official release.
“There’s something timeless about Majboor,” Lost Frequencies said. “I loved blending those beautiful melodies with my own sound and bringing it to the dance floor.”
Sheheryar, who wrote and composed the original track, said the song’s international journey had been difficult to predict.
He said the remix offered a fresh musical perspective while retaining the emotion of the original, adding that it was exciting to see the song reach new audiences around the world.
The original combines Sheheryar’s songwriting with Zoha’s ghazal-influenced vocals, creating a contemporary Pakistani pop sound. Xulfi, co-founder and chief operating officer of Giraffe Music, which is associated with the project, said music could take stories to places artists might never have imagined.
He pointed to Lost Frequencies performing Majboor in India as an example of how musical collaborations could help Pakistani music reach international audiences.
Lost Frequencies, whose real name is Félix De Laet, became internationally known with Are You With Me, which topped charts in 18 countries and made him the first Belgian artist to reach number one in the UK.
In 2014, Lost Frequencies made a remix of country artist Easton Corbin’s “Are You with Me”. The song had originally appeared in Corbin’s second studio album, All Over the Road, but had not been released as a single. Lost Frequencies remixed the song and uploaded it to SoundCloud. Armada Music A&R, and founder of The Bearded Man label, Marwen Tlili discovered the record and subsequently signed it. The official release was on 27 October 2014. The track topped Belgium’s Ultratop chart on 15 November 2014, reaching number two in the Walloon chart as well.
The remix highlights how streaming platforms and live performances can help songs cross geographical and musical boundaries, allowing artists from different markets to connect with new listeners.
