Uma Thurman’s father, Robert Thurman, known for his contribution in preserving Tibetan Buddhism, passed away at the age of 84.
βThe Kill Bill actress’s father’s death was announced in an obituary note by Tibet House US, a cultural center he co-founded.
βThe statement posted on Instagram read, βWe are deeply saddened to announce that Robert A.F. Thurman @bob__thurman, prominent American Buddhist scholar, co-founder of Tibet House US, author and translator whose teachings shaped countless lives, died Tuesday morning, June 16, in Woodstock, New York.”
Uma’s family has requested privacy during this hard time for the Thurman clan, the obituary note added.
βThe post also included a mantra , βOm Mani Padme Hum,β which translates to βthe jewel in the lotus.β
βThe Tibetan Buddhism practitioner is survived by his kids, Uma, Mipam Thurman, 48, Ganden Thurman, 58, Taya Thurman, 66, and Dechen Thurman, 53.
βFor those unversed, Robert was named TIME’s one of the 25 most influential Americans in 1997.
βHe laid the foundation of Tibet House US, a nonprofit organization, in 1987, to promote and preserve Tibetan culture.
ββThanks to the Tibetan people, especially their living savior, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his various emanations, I have found basic sanity in my lifelong quest,β Robert’s statement wrote on his website.
