Dallas’ Most Expensive Condominium: An Expression of Architectural Vision, Artistry

The Gallery Penthouse at HALL Arts Residences

In the heart of the Dallas Arts District, The Gallery Penthouse at HALL Arts Residences stands as an expression of architectural vision and interior artistry. Two creative forces were key to bringing this full-floor project to life: Abeyta Architecture Studio and Neal Thomas Enterprises.

The four-bedroom home — spanning more than 7,600 square feet, with 14-foot ceilings, 12-foot pocket doors, and special luxuries such as a wine cellar, library, and two sleek fireplaces — is the result of a shared belief that design of all forms should inspire.

‘The concept for the space was based on the idea of liberation’

Abeyta Architecture Studio is a Dallas-based firm founded by Edward Abeyta in 2022. With three decades of experience behind him, Abeyta approached The Gallery Penthouse as an opportunity to create a space that blurs the line between interior and exterior space, luxury and simplicity.

“The concept for the space was based on the idea of liberation,” Abeyta says, “to feel free and to feel connected to the city, the Dallas skyline and the heart of the Dallas Arts District. The perimeter of the residence was designed to be free of walls, liberating the perimeter columns and allowing a resident to circulate the space unencumbered — and free to feel connected with their surroundings.”

Quality was essential to realizing the vision for The Gallery Penthouse. Abeyta brought in Dallas-based Allgood/Pfannenstiel General Contractors to ensure the execution matched the high-design intent. Allgood/Pfannenstiel is known for its exacting, artisanal builds, especially of highly contemporary homes. Every detail was carefully considered.

“The final outcome was what we had envisioned from the start,” says Abeyta. “We worked hard to stay true to the vision and made sure every detail was carefully crafted and executed.”

‘Serenity seems inevitable in that space’

Neal Thomas Enterprises, a New York–based interior design studio founded by Neal Thomas, was the ideal partner to translate this vision into furnishings that resonate on both sensory and emotional levels. Known for assembling layered, expressive spaces through collaboration with seasoned artisans, Thomas approached The Gallery Penthouse with a willingness to challenge it just enough.

“Japanese temples were an early influence,” says Thomas. Here, in Residence 2601, he says, “serenity seems inevitable in that space. I wanted to echo this and then bring a layer of new emotions; introduce enough tension to keep the dinner party exciting — and not end the party early.”

Deep emerald sofas in the central living space, a custom dining table inspired by Paul Evans and pieces by artists such as Peter Lane and Michael Wilson infuse the space with character.

“Furniture has to pick up the story wherever the architecture stops,” Thomas says. “Architecture controls how a story begins, and interior design determines how it ends.”

The connection to the Dallas Arts District was a shared inspiration for the team. For Abeyta, it was about creating a space where one could feel “like an artist — liberated, inspired and full of self-expression.” For Thomas, it was the vibrancy of the neighborhood itself and its many cultural institutions, such as the Winspear Opera House and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.

“Creativity! Isn’t that the point?” Abeyta says. “Art unlocks the mind. Dance can unlock the body. Music, the soul.”

The Gallery Penthouse reflects contrasts in scale — grand yet intimate, minimalist yet richly detailed.

“We considered human scale in every aspect of the design so that all spaces felt livable, truly functional, but always elegant and refined,” says Abeyta. “The design speaks to luxury through its high level of quality — space, material, detail — while holding strong to its true functionality.”

And while both teams agree the execution was seamless, the moments that emerged after completion were the most exciting.

“The early morning sunrise on the east side of the building lets you look through the glass from the primary bath to the opposite end of the unit,” Abeyta says. “The connection to that horizon is breathtaking.”

Together, Abeyta Architecture Studio, Allgood/Pfannenstiel General Contractors and Neal Thomas Enterprises have crafted a one-of-a-kind living experience. Above all, it’s a celebration of what’s possible when architecture and design speak with one voice.
