If I were starting out in Dallas all over again, I’d move to this Kings Highway Conservation District bungalow in a heartbeat. Why? So many reasons.
First, of course, is location. You’re guaranteed a neighborhood with an intact character. People move to conservation districts and fight for their expansion for that very reason. The homes here are historic and charming.
My second reason is also location. Oak Cliff offers topography you don’t find in the rest of Dallas. The sunset views from this Kings Highway bungalow are spectacular and unobstructed. The rolling terrain of the five-acre Twelve Hills Nature Center is a three-minute walk from the front door. You are also across the street from one of the best schools in Dallas, Rosemont Elementary School.

The third reason is, you guessed it, location again. You can seriously get anywhere worthwhile on foot. Walk ten minutes to the north, and you are on the Stevens Park Golf Course. Ten minutes to the south, you can be in a seat at the Kessler Theater, enjoying some of the finest music in America. There are great restaurants, bars, and shops, all within walking distance.

And my final reason? It’s dog-tested and dog-approved. In my world, that’s everything. In fact, this Kings Highway Conservation District bungalow is a pup’s paradise.
The home has been beautifully updated without losing an ounce of charm. At 2,034 square feet with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, it’s spacious enough for the current family of two adults, two kids, and, of course, two dogs. I have it on good authority that Sugar and Cosmo very much enjoyed their time here, especially in the kitchen, which they can reach in a short trot from the living room to enjoy any tidbits that might be surreptitiously passed down from the eat-in bar.

I hear they have even managed to negotiate the dramatic winding coral staircase that leads to the second-floor bedroom and sitting area. But, if truth be told, they prefer the comfort of the generous primary suite overlooking the backyard, where they can perch and watch for potential squirrel intruders.

On sunny days, you know they will be lounging on the deck or taking a dip in the pool. And yes, humans are welcome to join.

Speaking of humans, owner Meredith Vachon, co-founder of Best Bite Texas, and her family will also miss lounging by the pool, but it’s those sunsets Vachon will miss the most.
“We have an unobstructed view off the side of the house, and it feels very private,” she said. “The house is so special, and we felt that the moment we walked in. There is an energy about it and a remarkable feeling of being in nature.”

Dave Perry-Miller Realtor Emily Ruth Cannon has this Kings Highway Conservation District bungalow at 1635 Taft St. available for $799,999.
