Xpeng Australia announces new-model onslaught to tackle Tesla, Zeekr

A rejuvenated Xpeng has announced plans to launch four new models in Australia over the next six months as it looks to boost its lineup beyond a single vehicle, the G6 SUV, and expand its local operation.

Speaking at its first Brand Day in Melbourne, Xpeng head of marketing and creativity Damian Royce announced the local new-model onslaught, which will also include an updated version of the G6 and coincide with an expansion of its dealer network from 13 to 50 dealers.

The fresh nameplates include the seven-seat X9 electric people mover scheduled to arrive in the third quarter (July-September) of 2026, a rival to the Denza D9, Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Zeekr 009.

Xpeng has confirmed two X9 model grades will be offered in Australia, starting with a front-wheel drive Standard Range from $89,900 before on-road costs, with a Performance AWD (all-wheel drive) flagship at $109,900 before on-road costs.

While the people mover is sold as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) in China, Australia will only receive the EV versions.

The X9 sits on an 800V electrical architecture, with the Standard Range using a 94.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a range of 535km (WLTP), while the Performance has a 580km WLTP range from its 110kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery.

It comes with ‘5C’ ultra-fast charging, enabling a 10-80 per cent battery top-up in as little as 12 minutes, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.

The X9 is set to arrive around the same time as the updated G6 electric SUV, which was the first and is currently the only model in local showrooms after Xpeng was launched here in 2024.
