A disabled girl was gang raped after being kidnapped by a man that she knew. Five men have been jailed for life after attacking the 17-year-old.
The victim was approached by a man in 2024 who lured her to a secluded location with the promise of cash and a mobile phone. He then raped her before calling four other men who also sexually assaulted the victim. They fled the scene before the attack was reported to police by the girl’s mother. Officers launched an immediate investigation and tracked down the five men after gathering substantial evidence.
As reported by the Times of India, the girl was gang raped in the city of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. The men have now been jailed following a trial at a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court.
The court heard how the victim was offered RS 500 (£3.91) by the man who took her to a secluded location. He also promised her a touchscreen mobile phone before raping her and inviting the four other attackers.
It was heard that the first man was known to the girl before the attack. Each attacker has been jailed for life as well as fined RS 20,000 (£156.55) each.
POCSO judge Gyanendra Singh Yadav said: “Considering the gravity of the offences and the vulnerability of the survivor, the court is compelled to impose the maximum punishment prescribed under law.”
The judge sentenced the attackers to life behind bars as well as three years each under IPC Section 363 (kidnapping) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation), with all sentences to run concurrently. Prosecutor Harendra Tyagi said the prosecution relied on medical evidence and witness testimonies.
Hapur, which has a population of around 393,000 people, is located around 60km east of New Delhi. The city is known for manufacturing stainless steep pipes and tubes, paper cones, and textiles.
