Kofi Stone “Sicily” ft. Mahalia Review: Cadence, Chemistry, & Craft

Sicily is a tender moment from Kofi Stone’s new project, The Last Flower To Bloom. The beat builds at a mid-tempo pace, and Stone’s laid-back cadence matches it perfectly. His delivery feels like casual spoken-word poetry fitted effortlessly into rhythmic signatures. His flows sit comfortably inside the pocket, never rushing, never dragging. Mahalia answers with sweet melodies, gliding over warm, soulful undertones. Their exchange is seamless, a conversation between two artists in sync.

Stone, born in East London and raised in Birmingham, has always been a storyteller first. He writes like a poet who stumbled into rap, and here his introspective lyricism blends hip-hop with jazz, soul, and live instrumentation. Inspired by his poet grandfather, he began writing in his early teens, growing up on artists like Lupe Fiasco and Common. He released his breakout single “Stories In Pyjamas” in 2017 and his debut album Nobody Cares Till Everybody Does in 2019.

The song explores love as something fragile and necessary. Stone reflects on shared moments abroad, on fears of losing what he has, on the quiet ache of wanting forever to delay. Mahalia’s hook, “The sun don’t shine unless you’re my baby,” anchors it all in emotional dependence. Joe Corfield’s production balances romance and melancholy neatly.

“Sicily” is both a love letter and a reckoning, a centrepiece for a project about growth. It is Stone passing something forward, and it lands.
