London-based Chinese designer Oscar Ouyang has already proved what he can do with dense, crafty knits. For spring 2027, he loosened things up, making them lighter, shinier and easier to wear.
“Everything can go from a thread. It doesn’t need to be wool. It could be anything,” he said backstage, explaining how metallic yarns and Irish lace–inspired crochet helped him push his knitwear in a new direction.
Silver tassels swung from crocheted pieces and what might once have been a cozy pullover turned into something closer to jewelry: a crocheted pine nut reborn as a precious trinket, or a swan gliding across tiny knitted shorts.
The collection explored that phase between being a teenager and an adult, when one raids their parents’ closets to dress up for a big night out. Tailoring looked proper from the front but opened unexpectedly at the back; polos were cut lower than expected, and running shorts puffed out.
“It’s still this really sensitive kind of Oscar boy character. What I’m interested in, what I would like to wear, what people around me would like to wear,” he said.
The mood stayed rooted in youthful nostalgia, capped by Lennon Gallagher walking to Blur’s “Girls and Boys,” a cheeky nod to his father’s Britpop fame.
