Toyota’s Corolla could be considered one of the best cars money can buy. At its $24,320 starting price, it’s not even that much money by today’s standards. This undercuts the Civic, yes. And while Honda’s compact sedan entry does top resale value lists, guess who’s a close contender? Here are some things that make the Toyota Corolla a stand out.

Powertrain: Between the two, the Toyota Corolla gets the more powerful engine. A 169-horsepower 4-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) moves the Corolla. Anytime you see a number below 200, that can be a red flag, however, remember that the Corolla is a small car that doesn’t weight as much as an SUV, so it still feels peppy around town.
8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia: The standard 8-inch touchscreen in the Corolla houses features including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, and over-the-air updates. You get a 10.5-inch screen in the XSE trim and it’s an option in the SE. The Civic only gets a 7-inch screen in all gas-powered-only models.
