London has launched its bid to host WorldPride 2032, with mayor Sir Sadiq Khan sharing his hopes that the opportunity will “take us even further” in the city’s support for the LGBTQ+ community
WorldPride 2026 was hosted in Amsterdam – now London wants to take over
London is launching a bid to host the world’s largest international Pride festival – WorldPride 2032. Although five years away, plans for the campaign are already underway, with the global LGBTQIA+ community already placed at the creative centre.
If successful, London would become the first ever city to host WorldPride for a second time, having previously hosted in 2012 and the event will mark 60 years since the UK’s first ever LGBT pride. London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan revealed why he’s backing the London bid, sharing his hopes the event will “take us even further” in the city’s support for Pride.
“Hundreds of thousands of uncelebrated LGBTQIA+ Londoners bring love and joy to our lives every day. Together, they have made London the modern, multicultural metropolis it is today — and they are the reason that WorldPride belongs in our city. Given the opportunity, we’ll show the world that, in the face of division, our diversity remains our greatest strength,” he wrote in The Standard.
What is WorldPride?
WorldPride is a major celebration and event, held once every two years, for people from the LGBTQIA+ community, with a goal to raise awareness of equal rights and visibility worldwide. The inaugural WorldPride was held in Rome in 2000, and the event has since been hosted in Sydney, New York, Madrid and Amsterdam.
London hosted the event back in 2012, marking the 40th anniversary of the first gay pride march in the UK held in 1972. Approximately 25,000 people participated in the march, which was scaled-down due to a funding shortage.
London WorldPride 2032 competitions
The London WorldPride 2032 Bid Committee is inviting artists, designers, photographers and Pride communities from around the world to help shape what could become the event’s official visual identity.
LGBTQIA+ creatives from across the UK are asked to submit an original logo outline that captures London’s diversity, creativity and the significance of hosting WorldPride, as part of the design competition. If London is successful, the winning design will become London’s official WorldPride 2032 bid logo.
Inspired by Outernet London’s record-breaking Coronation campaign, the bid is inviting members of the LGBTQIA+ community from around the world to submit photographs celebrating Pride, identity, allyship and belonging, as part of a second photography competition.
The winning logo outline will be selected by the London WorldPride 2032 Bid Committee. Its designer will receive a £3,000 prize and the design will be unveiled at the end of October 2026 through an immersive installation across Outernet London’s world-famous digital screens. The installation will reveal how thousands of community images have come together to form a single symbol representing Pride across the world.
Submissions for both the design and photography competition will open immediately via the Pride in London website. Entries close on 25th September 2026 and the winner will be announced in early October 2026.
