Disgraced funeral director Robert Bush is due to learn his fate today after admitting dozens of offences linked to Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull. Bush, 48, pleaded guilty to 67 offences, including fraud, preventing the lawful and decent burial of bodies, theft from charities and fraudulent trading, following an investigation into practices at the funeral firm.
During a five-day sentencing hearing at Hull Crown Court, judges heard harrowing evidence from victims’ families, police officers and crime scene investigators. More than 200 victims described the devastating impact of Bush’s offending, while officers told the court they had witnessed some of the most distressing scenes of their careers. The court also heard Bush defrauded 226 people through funeral plans over almost 12 years, taking more than £500,000 from customers after charging them for plans he was not authorised to provide.
