The Golden State Warriors are still hoping to improve their roster this summer but have been dealt a series of setbacks. First, they struck out on Giannis Antetokounmpo, then LeBron James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers instead of the Warriors.
That leaves them in a bit of a bind. No other star is available, and the Golden State are running out of time to improve their roster this offseason.
LeBron ditching the Warriors for the Sixers sent a clear message, and it’s probably not one they want to hear. Recently, Warriors veteran Draymond Green weighed in on what went wrong and why LeBron didn’t sign with the Warriors.

The real reason why LeBron James didn’t choose the Warriors is revealed
Perhaps Green has a point, with LeBron having lost three times to the Warriors in the NBA Finals. Maybe LeBron wasn’t willing to join up with former rivals, and who could blame him?
Instead, he was apparently looking for a fresh start, and the 76ers gave him that opportunity. More realistically, LeBron saw that the Warriors were aging, with their three best players being 36 or older.
It’s clear that the Sixers’ roster is far better than the Warriors could ever put together around LeBron. As a result, it seems like a no-brainer that he chose Philly over Golden State.
The Warriors have no backup plan after striking out on LeBron
With no LeBron, the Warriors are in arguably a worse spot than they were entering the summer. They have no star additions, and many of the top free agents have already been signed.
Now, they have an aging team and may not even be healthy to start next season. Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody will miss either most or all of next season. Then there is Curry, who, given his age, seems like a safe bet to miss 20 games every year. As is Kristaps Porzingis, but due to injuries, he is not playing.
It’s one thing to have a lack of talent, but the Warriors actually have capable NBA players; they just can’t stay healthy at the same time.
Ultimately, Golden State failing to land Giannis and LeBron is a gut punch to the Warriors. But Green’s explanation about why LeBron didn’t join them ignores the major flaws on the Warriors’ roster.
