Abby Newman Winters is offering Devon an olive branch next week on Y&R. Good for Abby. Truly. She is the bigger person in this situation & she has been for longer than she should have to be.

Y&R: Abby’s Olive Branch Comes With Devon’s Questions

Here’s the problem. Devon Winters (Bryton James) doesn’t just accept olive branches. Devon Winters needs to know what kind of olives grew on that branch. Black or green? Were they hand-picked or machine-harvested? Who authorized the harvest & was there a proper discussion beforehand? Because Devon did not agree to those specific olives & he’d like that noted for the record.

This is the same man who filed legal paperwork to review Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) plea deal without telling Abby Winters (Melissa Ordway) first. Not a conversation. Not a “hey, what do you think?” Paperwork. Filed. Done. He genuinely believed they were on the same page because in Devon’s world, his page is the only page.

Abby called him out. Devon was confused by her reaction. That confusion IS the problem in its purest form. If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know I’ve called Devon the Eeyore of Genoa City. I’m not taking it back. The olive branch situation has only made the case stronger.

He approaches every situation with the quiet certainty that he is the most reasonable person in the room & everyone else just needs to catch up. The filing of that paperwork wasn’t malicious. Devon genuinely thought he was helping. That’s almost worse.

So now Abby is extending peace, & Devon is going to evaluate that peace on his own terms & his own timeline. He won’t reject the olive branch outright — that would be too simple. He’ll just have questions. Black or green. Hand-picked or machine-harvested. Properly documented or not.

The Eeyore of Genoa City doesn’t need enemies. He just needs everyone around him to meet a standard he hasn’t fully communicated yet.

Abby Abbott Newman Chancellor Winters has carried more last names than any one person should & she has done it while being consistently more interesting than the men attached to those names. She is offering this man an olive branch next week. The least Devon Winters can do is accept it without a full investigation into the sourcing.

He won’t, though, because he’s Devon Hamilton NOW Winters, & that’s why I’ll be right here when it falls apart.
