This Murcielago SV Cost $450K New, Mecum Thinks It’s Worth Nearly Ten Times That Now

Collectors are going crazy for the ultimate version of the Lamborghini Murcielago

This Murcielago SV Cost $450K New, Mecum Thinks It’s Worth Nearly Ten Times That Now

  • This Murcielago SV could sell for up to $4 million over the weekend.
  • Pricing for the SV originally started at just over $450,000 in the UK.
  • Just four in North America have a Nero Aldebaran paint as this one.

Depreciation is supposed to work in one direction. Apparently, the Murcielago LP 670-4 SV did not get the message. Launched in 2010, the Murcielago SV served as the swan song for the nameplate, produced in limited numbers just before Lamborghini started building the Aventador. Sixteen years on, it has become a multi-million-dollar collector’s piece.

Unlike some other rare Lamborghini models like the Sian FKP 37 and Countach LPI 800-4, which generally trade hands for less than their MSRPs, the Murcielago SV is very different. When it was new, it started at around $450,000, and this weekend, a low-mileage one is expected to bring between $3.7 million and $4 million.

If the estimate holds, this will be one of the most expensive Murcielago SVs ever sold. Higher-mileage cars seem to trade nearer the $1 million mark, but the one being sold by Mecum has been driven just 693 miles (1,115 km) since new. Even a result short of the pre-auction estimate would be exceptional.

A V12 Icon

Interestingly, this SV has bounced around the used car market for several years. In 2022, Mecum offered it for sale at its Monterey auction with 617 miles (993 km) on the clock. Bidding hit $1 million, but it failed to sell. Late last year, the car was listed and sold by Fort Lauderdale Collection South for an undisclosed sum.

This Murcielago is number 188. Lamborghini had intended to build 350 units of the SV, but had to cut production short to make way for the Aventador. Some sources claim 186 were built, but this isn’t accurate, and closer to 300 are thought to have been made. Of these, just four are painted in Nero Aldebaran in North America.

Contrasting the car’s black paint are yellow brake calipers and large yellow SV logos on the sides. Like all but a handful of Murcielago SVs, this one pairs its 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 with the e-gear transmission, driving all four wheels.

Mecum will find out this weekend whether the market agrees with its $3.7 to $4 million estimate. Check out the listing over here.
