The Honda CR-V is now in its sixth generation, having helped families get through the daily grind since the mid-1990s. The latest generation was introduced for the 2023 model year, bringing a fresh new look inside and out, as well as upgraded technology and comfort features.
For this generation, the CR-V is available with either a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated at up to 30 mpg combined or a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder hybrid system rated at up to 40 mpg combined. A TrailSport variant adds a little more off-road reach and lands right in the middle at 35 mpg using the hybrid drivetrain.

Passenger Room and Comfort
With comfortable seating for five passengers, the Honda CR-V is spacious at each position. Front legroom is among the best in the segment at 41.3 inches. Second-row legroom is also excellent at 41.0 inches. Even on long trips, the CR-V’s seats have proven supportive.
The second row also has split-folding seats with recline, and excellent headroom (38.2 inches) and shoulder room (55.9 inches). Compared to competitors like the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and Toyota RAV4, the CR-V’s interior space is at the front of the pack.
If you opt for the EX-L trim, you’ll get all of that plus leather seating surfaces.
Features and Tech
The CR-V’s base LX and mid-range EX trims get a 9-inch touchscreen center display and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, both of which are sharp and easy to read. Competitors like the Tucson and RAV4 offer larger 12-inch-plus screens, however. The CR-V EX-L gets an upgrade to a 10.2-inch screen.
Likewise, the EX-L also gets an upgraded 8-speaker, 320-watt sound system, a power tailgate, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Base LX models get a 4-speaker, 160-watt system, while the EX gets 6 speakers and 240 watts.
All versions of the Honda CR-V now come standard with a wireless charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Bluetooth streaming and USB-C input. All models above the base LX also get standard USB-C charge ports in the front and rear rows.
All CR-V versions are also packed with Honda’s latest safety equipment in the Honda Sensing suite, including traffic sign recognition, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, and more.
Materials and Design
The finest materials and design elements have been reserved for the Honda CR-V Hybrid for this generation, but even base models benefit from Honda’s high overall materials quality. The plastics used are solid and substantial, while the cloth used on base seats is comfortable yet durable.
The base LX model gets unheated, manual-adjust seats for the truly frugal, but the EX and higher trims get heated front seats with 10-way power adjustment and 2-way lumbar support. The front passenger seat is manually adjustable in the LX and EX, or 4-way power-adjustable in the EX-L.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
The Honda CR-V is one of the most spacious in its segment for cargo space. Honda says the CR-V can fit up to 76.5 cu ft if you include the space in the footwells and slide the seats to their fully forward positions. There’s room for 39.3 cu ft – about half the maximum total – behind the second row.
The split-folding rear seat makes for easy flexibility between passenger use and cargo carrying, as well as easy fitment for longer or bulky cargo.
