Michael Baldwin is one of the smartest men in Genoa City. He has navigated courtrooms, criminals & the Newman family with the kind of precision that most attorneys only dream about. He has gotten guilty people off. He has protected the innocent. He has done things that would make the bar association sweat.
He has also spent the better part of the last decade letting Victor Newman run his life, & Lauren Fenmore has been standing right there watching it happen.
Finally, the Fabulous Lauren Fenmore has had ENOUGH…
The Victor Newman Problem
Let’s be clear about what Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) has signed up for over the years. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) does not hire attorneys. Victor Newman acquires them. He calls when he needs something, expects results & offers loyalty that evaporates the moment it becomes inconvenient.
Michael has shown up for Victor time & time again. He has put his career on the line. He has put his ethics on the line. He has, on more than one occasion, put his marriage on the line.
Lauren Fenmore (Tracey E. Bregman) stayed anyway. That’s the part Michael seems to keep forgetting.
What Lauren Is Asking For
Lauren Fenmore Baldwin is not a woman who asks for much. She built her own empire. She has her own money, her own instincts & her own opinions. She does not need Michael to function.

But she needs him now. Lauren is working with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) & things are getting complicated fast with Victor & Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell) in the mix. She wants her husband in her corner for once. She wants the attorney she married to show up for HER instead of The Mustache.
Michael hasn’t said no yet. He also hasn’t said yes. & that hesitation tells you everything.
The Bug & The Mustache
Christine Blair has built her entire career on being the most self-righteous person in any room she walks into. Victor Newman has built his entire legacy on getting exactly what he wants, regardless of what it costs everyone around him.
Together, they make a formidable obstacle for Lauren & Phyllis. & the one person who could actually help them is standing in the middle, wondering which side of history he wants to be on.
Michael Baldwin knows better. That’s what makes this so frustrating.
The Karma Problem
Here’s what Y&R fans know that Michael Baldwin apparently keeps forgetting. Lauren has been there through the Victor entanglements & through every ethical compromise & every late-night call from The Mustache that pulled Michael away from his own life.
She stayed. She always stayed.
Now she’s asking him to stay for her & he’s leaning toward the man who has taken advantage of his loyalty for years.
Karma doesn’t always show up dramatically in Genoa City. Sometimes it shows up as your wife standing in the kitchen waiting for an answer you already owe her.
Michael Baldwin is a smart man. It’s time to act like it.
It’s not my first day watching Y&R & it isn’t yours either. What’s your take?
