On Friday, queer artist corook dropped their brand new single, “Banana peel.” Alongside that, they released the official lyric video that also premiered today. The single gives a preview of their upcoming EP How do I relate to you? out on May 28 via Atlantic Records.
About the single, corook expressed their thoughts on how the track hones in on a certain introspection they have.
“It’s a song about being perceived by myself, by strangers, by friends, by enemies, and how hard it can be to stay connected to yourself when those lines start to blur,” they said in today’s announcement. “We were thinking of how the “THEY/THEM ENERGY!” video went viral, and I got a bunch of death threats. As much as I try to laugh about it, it was also about being really uneasy and not knowing how to feel about leaving my house or if I was going to continue as corook. Luckily it didn’t knock me down entirely but when you get back up after something like that, you’re different.”
