Former Prince Andrew tried to facilitate Epstein-Gaddafi meeting – Channel 4 News

Emails appear to show that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor tried to facilitate a meeting with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi for Jeffrey Epstein, at Epstein’s request.

The emails were included in the latest dump of Epstein files released by the US Department of Justice, and have been uncovered and reported by Channel 4 News for the first time.

The exchanges occurred in late 2010 while the former Prince was still UK trade envoy. They seem to show that the convicted paedophile and financier Epstein wanted to secure a role in managing money for Gaddafi, who was ruler of Libya at the time.

Epstein appears to say over email that people who have met Gaddafi “have asked me if i want to meet him as he does not know where to put his money”, and goes on to attempt to arrange a meeting with either Gaddafi or his associates via Mountbatten-Windsor.

Mountbatten-Windsor seems to indicate that he is willing to arrange something for Epstein, and later, to indicate that he has arranged something.

Further emails suggest a meeting likely did not go ahead as Epstein ultimately did not fly to Tripoli as planned.

Throughout the exchanges, the man we understand to be Colonel Muammar Gaddafi is referred to by a series of aliases, including “the father” and “the leader”.

Colonel Gaddafi and his son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi were both public figures whom Mountbatten-Windsor had met in Libya in his role as trade envoy. We understand Colonel Gaddafi is referred to as “the father” to distinguish him from his well-known son Saif.

The same man referred to as “the father”, is later referred to as “the leader”. Mountbatten-Windsor himself refers to Gaddafi in other emails about Libya as “Brother Leader”, and admits having a contact who has his ear.

Mountbatten-Windsor has been approached for comment.

Timeline of emails

Emails on 7 October 2010 show that Epstein initially reached out to David Stern, an associate of Mountbatten-Windsor, saying ““i want to go to tripoli lets organize with pa”.

PA is a well known alias for Prince Andrew used throughout Epstein’s emails.

Stern replied later the same day saying: Spoke to PA. Tripoli can be organised, he wants more details.”

Epstein then seems to clarify the reason why he wants to go to Libya, saying: “people that have seen the father , have asked me if i want to meet him as he does not know where to put his money […] I wondered if Pa should make the intro instead”

We understand “the father” here refers to Colonel Gaddafi.

Stern then replies, seeming to indicate he has spoken to Mountbatten-Windsor who is receptive to the request: “He is thinking about the best approach and will discuss with me when I see him next on 17th Oct in Hong Kong (he is leaving today for Asia).”

The dates listed above appear to line up with Mountbatten-Windsor’s diary as trade envoy at the time. His diary corroborates an official visit to China on 17 October 2010.

Later on 3 November 2010, Epstein seems to contact Stern again to remind him about Tripoli, and Stern responds saying “PA will meet the man who is his link to the father tonight or tomorrow. Will update you as soon as i have news.

A day later Mountbatten-Windsor himself makes contact with Epstein, saying: “I will call you later this evening after I have had my chat with my Libyan contact to see what we can arrange for you in Tripoli.”

Mere hours later, Mountbatten-Windsor follows up with this message: “Libya fixed. Call me whenever.”

The final email comes on 7 November 2010, when Epstein says to Mountbatten-Windsor:

“I was just following up on your suggestion that i should meet the leader as he is in need of advice. […] I will gladly go to tripoli, as i thinkg it would be interesting, but only if it is easy to organize and the meeting will definitely take place.

At the time of these last emails, Epstein himself claims to be in the UAE.

Epstein’s account of his travel itinerary in later emails indicates he flew directly from the UAE to Turkey, and then France, suggesting the planned meeting in Libya did not ultimately take place.

This week Channel 4 News unearthed for the first time footage appearing to be from a hidden spy camera inside Jeffrey Epstein’s Palm Beach home.
