Michael McKee, accused of fatally shooting is ex, Monique Tepe, and her husband, Spencer Tepe, in their Columbus, Ohio, home, is named in a September 2025 medical malpractice suit filed in Las Vegas, according to complaint documents viewed by People. About a month later, McKee’s coworker told Nevada officials he “disappeared.”
In the Nevada malpractice complaint, filed in Clark County District Court on Sept. 29, 2025, a patient alleges that McKee, 39, failed to adequately supervise or train a colleague during a laser procedure intended to treat lower extremity venous insufficiency. The amended complaint says an 8.6-inch portion of a catheter sheared off inside the patient’s leg, leading to emergency surgery and long-term complications, including pain, discoloration, and other injuries. The lawsuit claims McKee “breached the standard of care,” though his attorneys have denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, efforts to locate McKee to serve the legal documents were unsuccessful. Process servers knocked on his listed home address multiple times but received no response. By October a coworker told them McKee had simply “disappeared.”
At the time, McKee held a medical license in Nevada that was issued in March 2023 and expired in June 2025. He had been practicing as a vascular surgeon at Las Vegas Surgical Associates before leaving the state, and was also licensed in California and Illinois.

McKee was married to Monique Tepe from 2015 to 2017; she filed for divorce on the grounds of incompatibility. Nearly a decade later, on Dec. 30, 2025, Monique, 39, and her husband, Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37 — a popular Columbus dentist — were found dead from gunshot wounds in their home after coworkers became concerned when Spencer failed to show up for work. The couple’s two young children, ages 1 and 4, were there at the time and unharmed.
After the killings, investigators released neighborhood surveillance footage showing a hooded figure walking near the Tepe residence around the time of the killings. Vehicle tracking linked a car registered to McKee to the scene. Weapons recovered from McKee’s home in Rockford, Illinois, included one preliminarily tied to the homicides through ballistic analysis.
Police arrested McKee on Jan. 10, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois, where he had been working as a surgeon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. He waived his extradition hearing and intends to plead not guilty to the charges.
In Ohio, McKee faces two counts of aggravated murder with premeditation in Franklin County. Columbus police call the Tepe killings a “targeted” domestic violence-related attack, though no official motive has been publicly confirmed. McKee remains detained in Winnebago County Jail in Illinois pending extradition to Ohio.
