A full-size 100ml bottle normally costs £128
For years perfume buffs have been raving about a Jo Malone scent that was dubbed ‘the perfect gourmand’. Ginger Biscuit was a limited edition Christmas release that left shoppers yearning for more once it was gone – but now it’s back.
When buying from Jo Malone London there is only a 100ml bottle availably individually for £128. A 10ml bottle of the newly returned scent is available exclusively on LookFantastic for £25 but for new members of TopCashback and LookFantastic, they can get it for as low as £5.83 after cashback, making for the perfect stocking filler.
I’ve spent the last few months searching for a cosy gourmand scent. I thought it might be Lush’s Pumpkin Spice (£28) but that was way too spice forward without any of the sweetness I was looking for.

The Body Shop came out with Sugar Pumpkin (£13) which is a soft, warm and cosy – it even says cosy on the bottle. It smells more like moisturiser and almond milk to me though, with no pumpkin coming through at all. Since it’s a body spray rather than a perfume it’s not got the strongest longevity either.
Lush’s Scooby Snacks, £35, which despite an unorthodox name is a cinnamon biscuit scent with a hint of citrus was the top runner. Until I got my hands on Ginger Biscuit and okay, yeah. Now I get the Jo Malone London hype.
Ginger Biscuit has quite a good longevity, I could still smell it on my wrist after six hours of wear and I’d been out and about. That said, it might have lasted even longer but that’s when I’d went to bed and I couldn’t smell it anymore come the morning time.
It’s definitely a gourmand fragrance but it has a maturity that makes the hype make sense. The best way to describe it is that it smells like baking gingerbread with a loved one with the heating on and a luxurious body butter on your skin.
It doesn’t stray so sweet that it’s cloying, remaining a classy gourmand. It opens up with a burst of spices, namely ginger but also there’s a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon in there. It then moves into a heart of caramel and a base of roasted hazelnuts, tonka bean and vanilla which gives the impression of a just baked biscuit.

This seasonal hit is back after fans begged for its return
I like to smell sweet year round so something like this is ideal for me in the cooler months, it’s not just me that’s a fan though. Jo Malone shoppers have flooded the brand’s website with reviews insisting that they want it to be available year-round.
One wrote: “This fragrance is wonderful. I’ve worn it for over a year, even during summer (even though it isn’t a “summer scent”). It’s sweet without being sickly, vanilla-y without being cloying, and spicy without being bitter. Like a kitchen baking sweets during the fall/winter time. Essentially, the perfect gourmand fragrance. It isn’t overwhelming but, for me, it does last on the skin. People aren’t going to smell me coming and going (which I prefer), but they will smell me when standing close. I REALLY WISH this wasn’t a seasonal limited time cologne. I currently have three bottle on my dresser!”
Another said: “Christmas in a bottle! Absolutely love this scent! I originally ordered nutmeg ginger online expecting it to smell like this and it was awful…went to a local counter and tried this one and was instantly in love! The perfect scent for the holiday season! I usually wear more woodsy scents but I absolutely love this one for something different!! Smells like ginger snaps by a warm fire! The bottle with the cream and black bow is super cute and perfect for gift giving!”
One even said it smelled like they would imagine Hansel and Gretel’s Witch’s cottage, writing: “This gorgeous gourmand perfume smells like a warm hug. I imagine that this is what the fragrance inside of the witch’s gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel smelled like: a harmonious blend of cinnamon sugar, butterscotch, and caramelised hazelnuts/almonds. I love it so much I intend to buy another!”
However one shopper did complain about the projection and longevity of the scent, saying: “I bought this as it has been so hyped up however it only lasts seconds. The only time you can smell it, is when you’re spraying it out of the bottle and even then it’s super weak. A waste of £100+.”
I have tried the perfume and didn’t find it to be the case although there are a number of reasons this could happen. Improper storage can lead to a perfume losing a lot of its punch earlier than inticipated, it’s best to keep perfumes in a drawer or cupboard out of direct sunlight.
Application can also impact a scent, it’s best to apply a perfume to freshly washed and moisturised skin on the pulse points and to not then rub them together as this disrupts the notes.
