The second half of the men’s quarter-finals wrapped up on Wednesday as Jannik Sinner rolled Lorenzo Musetti in straights to continue his machine-like march through the draw, while Felix Auger-Aliassime battled past Alex de Minaur in over four hours to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final since 2021.
For Sinner, it was another reminder of the gap between himself and the rest: 91% of first-serve points won and zero service games dropped against a top-10 opponent is the stuff of dominance.
For Felix, it was guts and nerves in equal measure, saving a set point in the second set and clawing back from 2-5 down in the fourth to make the last four.
The wins set up a semi-final on Friday that will see Sinner vs Auger-Aliassime, and Djokovic vs Alcaraz.

Felix Auger-Aliassime def. Alex de Minaur, 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-5, 7-6(4)

Felix Auger-Aliassime rallied past eighth seed Alex de Minaur 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-5, 7-6(4) to reach the US Open semi-finals on Wednesday, his second Flushing Meadows final-four run.
The 25th seed saved a second-set tiebreak set point and won 13/17 tiebreak points in a four-hour, 10-minute battle to make his second Grand Slam semi-final and first since 2021.
This was a nervy match from both players, with De Minaur always struggling to take his game to the next level at the latter stages of Slams and Felix also looking pretty tight.
While I’m glad it didn’t as it was hard tennis to watch, I’m not sure how this didn’t go five as ADM was ahead in almost every set, had a set point in the second set tie break, and had a 5-2 lead in the fourth but wasn’t able to capitalise, and he’s now 0-6 in Grand Slam quarterfinals.
Felix has had a pretty good tournament with some good wins, and he fought well today, but I don’t see how he can be a factor in the semi-final.
Based on his level today, I give him 6 games, and if he can match Shapovalov’s efforts against Sinner, that would be impressive.

Jannik Sinner def. Lorenzo Musetti, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2

Jannik Sinner dominated 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to keep his title defence looking more likely by the day.
The World No. 1 won 91% of first-serve points (42/46), saved 7 of 7 break points and and broke five times in a two-hour rout.
I thought Musetti was more competitive than the scoreline suggests, but he never quite grabbed momentum, and on the big points, Sinner just kept him pinned deep behind the baseline, where it’s an uphill battle.
Still to make the quarter finals on his worst surface after a piss poor run post Roland Garros is a decent performance.
Sinner is TennisGPT, and it will take a creative genius to make him malfunction here and there; only Alcaraz is really capable of doing that.
