Young & the Restless is losing legacy characters left & right. However, there are non-legacy characters on Young & the Restless who have overstayed their welcome in Genoa City & on soap opera fan TV screens. Amazon had best have a sale on replacement fast-forward buttons if things don’t change soon on Y&R.

Dull-Debbie-Downer-Devon, Family Matters Reboot
PLEASE!!… Can Bryton James go far, far, away from Young & the Restless & be part of a Family Matters reboot? Soap opera fans at large have had enough. Eeyore on Winnie the Pooh is less of a grump than Devon Hamilton now Winters (Bryton James) is on Young & the Restless.
How dare CBS decide to kill off Dominic Abbott Newman Chancellor Winters’ legal dad, Chance Chancellor (Connor Floyd)? Chance wasn’t getting any time with his son, Dom, anyway, but now Devon Winters, who was once just a sperm donor, is Dom’s full-time dad. Even if Abby Winters (Melissa Ordway) would remove her head from her husband/sperm donor’s ass & divorce him, Devon will still be in Dominic’s life because of his sperm & Cricket/Christine Blair’s (Lauralee Bell) legal handiwork.
Why can’t Young & the Restless fans have nice things? Why was Devon Winters prioritized over legacy character, Chance Chancellor? Where’s Chance’s mother, Nina Webster (Tricia Cast)? Where’s his grandmother, Jill Abbott (Jess Walton)? Regardless of who portrayed Chance Chancellor, this character did not deserve to leave Young & the Restless in this way.
Chelsea Lawson is a Dud & Is Still in the Y&R Queue
Detective Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) hasn’t been seen in Genoa City on Young & the Restless in years, yet he wasn’t killed off. However, his last remaining child, Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom), was killed off. Heather’s killing wasn’t pretty either. Like Chance Chancellor’s untimely & tragic killing, Heather’s was awful & unnecessary. Yet, Young & the Restless fans are left to attempt to enjoy the presence of Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan).

Really, CBS? Chelsea Lawson over Heather Stevens? Chelsea’s time on Young & the Restless has come & gone. It’s run its course, & if she isn’t killed off, she can take her OCD son, Connor Newman (Judah Mackey), to live with her mother, Anita Lawson (Catherine Bach), in Minnesota.
Chelsea Lawson is hardly a legacy character & in addition, she’s a snoozefest. Heather Stevens was a hot attorney who was open to coloring outside the lines. There is always a demand for some of that in Genoa City. Also, what Y&R fan doesn’t have some hope that one day Paul Williams will revisit Genoa City?
Claire Newman NOT Howard, & Now Fans Know Why
If you thought it was strange that when Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) changed her name to Claire Newman & not Claire Howard after being reconnected with her long-lost parents, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) & Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck), you’re not the only one. In fact, you’re one of many.
Cole Howard’s return to Genoa City on Young & the Restless just proved to be pointless. Unlike the recasting of Cane Ashby, Cole Howard was brought back to Y&R fans as the original portrayer, J. Eddie Peck, & now he’s dead. Apparently, the powers that be at CBS.com knew what was coming all along & didn’t want any “Howard leftovers” to deal with after Cole’s sudden death after suffering Legionnaires’ Disease.
No, Cole Howard wasn’t the most exciting of residents in Genoa City, but it was nice for loyal Young & the Restless fans who have been tuning in for decades to see a familiar face after all of these years. Now, Y&R fans are left to tolerate more of Genoa City’s most entitled adult son, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), with the same amount of Claire.
Claire loves Kyle. Victor hates Kyle because he is the offspring of his nemesis, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). While there is a laundry list of reasons not to like Kyle Abbott, Victor just hates him because of his last name. While some soap opera fans may argue that Kyle Abbott is a legacy character, other soap opera fans will argue that he’s an entitled punk who has everything been handed to him, & there are plenty of other Abbotts on this soap opera.
