Hillcrest Estates is one of those hidden gem neighborhoods where you’re in the heart of Dallas yet feel completely off the beaten path. If you are not familiar with it, that’s by design.

Our publisher Candy Evans moved here from Park Lane years ago. “To me, it’s the best location in Dallas,” Evans said. “It’s easy to get places with the Tollway on the west and Central on the east. Great grocery stores surround us, the private schools are here, and we have an excellent security patrol.”

Now, you just need to find a great home here, and we’ve found it for you!

Josh Zielke built this 9,783-square-foot modern home in Hillcrest Estates in 2017 for a couple relocating from Germany.

“They came with specific ideas,” Zielke said. “They wanted clean lines, an open floor plan, and a lot of light.”

If you know anything about Germans, you’ll find that they want to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. So, Zielke and architect Lisa Teters designed this home with a grand living area opening to a year-round, heated, and cooled outdoor loggia featuring remote-controlled screens. The entire first floor wraps around a beautiful IPE deck, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto it from each room.

“The clients also had some specific ideas on the kitchen, which was ahead of the curve for Dallas at the time,”  Zielke said. Of course, it’s a German Poggenpohl kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, including a Sub-Zero refrigerator, Miele dishwashers, and a Gaggenau oven. The kitchen also opens fully to the outdoors.

The second-floor primary suite is a true sanctuary, featuring a fireplace, sitting area, coffee bar, and private balconies on either side of the room. This floor also features four additional bedrooms and a game room.

Although there is a lovely home gym, remember that this house was designed for a German couple who loved to swim. So, Zielke installed a gorgeous swimming pool.

There is also a linear fire feature at the end of the deck, a pickleball and sports court, and a climate-controlled three-car garage.

The things that matter most in a luxury home are often overlooked, so I want to highlight that this home features an incomparable air conditioning system.

“One of the biggest challenges in constructing the home was the air conditioning,” Zielke said.” The clients grew up without air conditioning, so they were sensitive to noise, sound, and airflow. We spent a lot of time wrapping the ductwork and designing the air conditioning system to run quietly so you won’t hear or feel it operating. We put the unit on springs in the attic so all the vibrations are absorbed.”

This Hillcrest Estates modern also features Control4 thermostats, a HEOS music system, and remote window treatments. It’s all at your fingertips, so you won’t have to leave your comfy couch!

“This property is special for so many reasons,” Compass listing agent Amy Detwiler said.  “It offers exceptional privacy on almost an acre, and the width of the lot allows natural light to flood the rooms, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, the separate guest quarters offer an extra advantage.”

Detwiler has this Hillcrest Estates Modern at 11565 E. Ricks Circle available for $7.95 million.
