To pass a bill requiring the 10 Commandments be posted in every classroom in Texas, the House of Representatives violated one of those commandments.
On the floor of the House, Rep. Jim Talarico, D-Austin, asked the bill’s author, Rep. Candy Noble, R-Murphy, “What is the 4th commandment?
Noble scrambled through papers on the desk to find which one was the fourth. You’d think someone posting the commandments in every classroom in Texas would know the commandments.
The fourth is, “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.”
Talarico asked Noble about what day is the Sabbath. She knew Saturday was the Jewish Sabbath and Sunday was the Christian Sabbath.
“Part of keeping the Sabbath is not working on the Sabbath?” he asked.
And he pointed out that the debate of her bill was taking place on Saturday and the final vote was scheduled for Sunday.
“Ironic, isn’t it?” Noble answered.
Well, no, not ironic, but if you truly believe in the 10 Commandments and want to shove them down the throat of every kid in Texas, it’s sacrilegious, hypocritical and flat out violates one of those 10 commandments.
He asked her if she’d be willing to postpone a vote on the bill in order to not violate one of the commandments. She laughed and he retorted, “You’re saying you’d rather tell people to follow the 10 Commandments than follow it yourself?”
Talarico also shot barbs at members of the House wondering if any of the members voting for the bill ever lied (9th Commandment) or committed adultery (7th Commandment).
After violating the 10 Commandments by working on Sabbath and not keeping it holy, the Texas House of Representatives voted to force teachers to post the 10 Commandments in their classrooms.
