Exclusive Sneak Peek at Casa Linda Forest Midcentury Modern Ranch

Casa Linda Forest Midcentury Modern
9135 Vinewood Dr. in Dallas

This Casa Linda Forest Midcentury Modern ranch hits the market on Monday, but you’re getting an exclusive sneak peek today. Not only is the neighborhood a hidden gem, but Sharon Hodges and her husband Stanley Duren have made spectacular updates to the house.

You may have heard of Casa View Shopping Center, but I’m betting that’s all you know about this area in East Dallas. It was not even a part of Dallas proper until 1945. It’s also not just one neighborhood. No, there are five subdivisions here with over 400 homes. We have Casa Linda Forest, Lindenwood Park, Westglen Park, Buckner Boulevard Estates, and Sherwood Glen Estates. There’s even a single house dubbed the Slovacek Addition, just to keep you on your toes!

Developers designed Casa Linda Forest around two creeks and some greenbelts, devising an abundance of cul-de-sacs. Given the massive mature trees here, they made the environmentally conscious decision to build around them. It’s an ideal setting, so you rarely see homes go up for sale here.

Hodges and her husband discovered this home in 2008, and by her own admission, they will have a hard time of it when it goes on the market on Monday.

“Of all the homes we have owned, this is my favorite,” Hodges said. “The  Midcentury Modern style and the trees attracted us to the neighborhood. It’s a beautiful property, we have lovely neighbors, and it’s been a joy to live here, but it’s just time to downsize.”

Hodges was a general contractor for years, so every space has been meticulously updated. “We did a lot of custom cabinetry, added storage and closet space, and remodeled the bathroom a few years ago,” she said. “All the spaces are so gracious, and the family room is lovely. The dining room overlooks the backyard. We call it the park, and we have owls that nest yearly in the backyard tree. The house lives so well.”

Of course, everyone has favorite spaces in their homes. Hodges particularly loves the kitchen, her dressing room, and the dining room. “It entertains beautifully,” she said.

When you enter this 3,379-square-foot, three-bedroom Casa Linda Forest Midcentury Modern ranch, it’s easy to see why leaving would be hard.

From the dramatic fireplace wrapped in Nero Marquina black porcelain tile to the custom rift-cut white oak cabinetry and slat wall, it’s clear that the thought and attention to detail are next level. One of the most interesting things you don’t want to miss on a tour of the home is the inspired use of the cedar closet as a dog condo! “It has blackout draperies because our dog is afraid of storms,” Hodges said.

Unfortunately, the superb art collection, which is not included with the house, is a personal collection of Hodges and her husband. However, you can get custom artwork from Hodges and her fellow artists at Blue Goat Studio, her latest endeavor with long-time friend and fellow artist Mary Nickell. You can also sign up for one of their classes and create your own custom artwork for this extraordinary home!
