DGLA PAC endorses candidates for Dallas city council

The Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance Political Action Committee announced its endorsed candidates for the upcoming 2025 Dallas City Council elections.

In April, DGLA PAC members reviewed candidate questionnaires and held interviews with those seeking their endorsement. This process allowed the PAC to understand each candidate’s commitment to key issues affecting the LGBTQ community and the broader Dallas population.

The DGLA PAC supports candidates who demonstrate a strong understanding of and dedication to creating a fair and inclusive Dallas for everyone. In districts where incumbents were previously endorsed, and the opposing candidates did not engage in the PAC’s process, the PAC chose to re-endorse those incumbents. In one district, the candidates chose not to participate in the endorsement process, so no endorsement was made.

Here are the DGLA PAC’s endorsed candidates for the 2025 Dallas City Council:

  • District 1: Chad West
  • District 2: Jesse Moreno
  • District 3: No endorsement
  • District 4: Maxie Johnson
  • District 5: Jaime Resendez
  • District 6: Laura Cadena
  • District 7: Adam Bazaldua
  • District 8: Lori Blair
  • District 9: Paula Blackmon
  • District 10: Kathy Stewart
  • District 11: Jeff Kitner
  • District 12: Cara Mendelsohn
  • District 13: Gay Donnell Willis
  • District 14: Paul Ridley

How Were These Candidates Chosen?

The DGLA PAC selected these candidates based on a thorough evaluation, considering:

  • Candidates’ public statements and their alignment with the values of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Feedback from LGBTQ+ community members and other Dallas residents.
  • Detailed written questionnaires completed by the candidates.
  • Private interviews with a panel of PAC members, focusing on crucial issues such as:
    • Sensitivity to and understanding of the challenges faced by transgender individuals, especially trans women of color.
    • Strategies for addressing harmful state legislation at the city level.
    • Practical solutions to Dallas’s affordable housing crisis.
    • Knowledge of the DGLA and the Mayor’s LGBT Task Force’s work in shaping inclusive city policies.
