QMN: New music Monday featuring Perfume Genius, Elton & Brandi, Allison Russell

Queer Music News is a smattering of what’s going on in music by LGBTQ artists and the artists we love.

Here’s a wrap-up of music we’ve received in recent days for your new music Monday.

Perfume Genius released his new album Glory

At the very end of March, Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) released his newest album Glory via Matador Records. This album explores recurring themes that examine the body and its decay, of domesticity and love, and of inescapable history and damage. Fun!

In the lead-up to the album release, Perfume Genius unveiled three singles including the most recent track “Clean Heart.” He earlier shared “No Front Teeth (feat. Aldous Harding),” accompanied by a video and “It’s a Mirror.”

Perfume Genius will support Glory with an extensive North American tour. He will perform in Dallas on June 3 at The Studio at The Bomb Factory. Tickets are on sale here.

Elton John & Brandi Carlile dropped an album and premiered a short film over the weekend

On Friday, the queer music icons released the collaborative studio album Who Believes In Angels? The concept for the albume was devised by John, Carlile and GRAMMY Award-winning producer and songwriter Andrew Watt. The album would songs, with long term collaborator Bernie Taupin and Carlile both contributing lyrics. The team wrote and recorded an album completely from scratch in just 20 days.

Capturing that experience is the short film Who Believes In Angels? Stories From The Edge Of Creation, a candid, 30-minute film series that highlights the talent of all the musicians who worked on the record. The insight into the turbulent creative process — breakdowns, breakthroughs, tears, torn up lyric sheets — marks the first time that John has allowed cameras to film his writing and recording sessions while creating an album.
