Betty Boo made her breakthrough as guest vocalist on The Beatmastersβ Top 10 single βHey DJ/I Canβt Dance (To That Music Youβre Playing)β in 1989.
She released two albums before she retired her solo career.
She went on to write songs for other pop artists such asΒ PopstarsΒ band HearβSay andΒ Girls Aloud, including the formerβs Number One hit βPure And Simpleβ and the latterβs three singles βMars Attackβ, βBoogie Down Loveβ and βLove Bombβ from their 2003 album βSound Of The Undergroundβ.
Speaking toΒ NMEΒ aboutΒ working with Girls Aloud previously, she said: βPost-pops star it was like being an ex-footballer and working at a club β although not as well paid. It was a bit shit.β
She added: βManaging vocals on a group is difficult because you want to feature all of them equally and not turn up the best singer, because the others get upset. I worked with one girl band β not Girls Aloud β and one of their mums came into the studio demanding: βCan you turn my daughterβs mic up?β. Iβm like: βGet the fuck out of my studio!ββ
More recently she returned to the studio for her 2022 album βBoomerangβ and last yearβs βRip Up The Rulebookβ.
