Ottawa’s southern LRT lines will start running seven days a week, beginning this weekend.

In a memo to city staff and council on Monday, OC Transpo general manager Renée Amilcar said the system is now ready to run every day of the week.

Beginning March 16, Lines 2 and 4  will run from 6 a.m. until midnight on weekdays, Saturday 6:30 a.m. until midnight, and Sunday 7:30 a.m.–11:30 p.m.

“Since service was expanded to six days a week, significant progress has been made by OC Transpo and TransitNext on all system elements,” Amilcar wrote.

Lines 2 and 4 officially opened to the public on Jan. 6, with a phased-in approach gradually increasing operating hours over the ensuing weeks. Line 2 connects to the Confederation Line at Bayview Station and runs south to Limebank, while Line 4 connects Line 2 to the airport.

More than 300,000 passengers rode the Trillium Line over its first month in operation, but at the time, OC Transpo said it wasn’t ready to run the train seven days a week, as work needed to be done to correct some issues with the passenger information screens on the trains and in the stations.

Amilcar said in her memo that “significant progress has been made” by OC Transpo and TransitNext on “all system elements,” including “continuing to increase and stabilize staffing levels, operators becoming more familiar with running trains in severe weather conditions, full fleet availability and more.

Amilar also said OC Transpo is “Continuing to improve the reliability of the customer information systems, like the next stop announcement and next departure times for trains.”
