After a weekend of warm and sunny weather, the UK is set to be hit with yet another cold blast – resulting in some snow in parts of the country.

Across the UK, temperatures are expected to drop by almost 10C from the weather at the weekend, according to the Met Office. The UK weather agency has forecast high chances of precipitation across most of the country, with “wintry showers” possible in northern areas.

On Tuesday evening (March 11), a wave of rain, sleet and snow is expected to blow across the UK in a southerly direction, which will result in some parts of northern Scotland seeing some snow from Tuesday evening.

Throughout Tuesday night, the weather will move down the country, bringing areas of wintry showers to other parts of the UK including the Lake District, Lancashire, Midlands and the North East coast. The weather conditions are expected to continue into Wednesday, but most of the wintry conditions should be gone by Thursday.

A Met Office spokesperson told the M.E.N that Greater Manchester will not get any snow this week.

Looking ahead at the Met Office UK forecast for Wednesday until Friday reads: “Rather cloudy, although brighter spells are likely at times. Scattered showers continuing to spread across the country with sleet and snow over northern hills. Cold with overnight frosts and ice.”

And looking even further ahead to the weekend, the Met Office predicts that the “cool theme” will continue, with mainly dry weather but spells of of rain plus frosty evenings to be expected.

Meteorological spring began last week and gifted us with glorious weather, but astronomical spring doesn’t begin until March 20 – by which time hopefully the cold blast will be over and it will feel more like spring.

The Met Office shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “After a warm weekend, its turning colder this week.” Alongside the post, they shared a look-ahead at the weather over the next week.

In the four-minute video, Honor Criswick explains that there is an area of high pressure to the south west of Iceland, bringing wintry conditions to the UK.
