I Refuse To Believe This Invincible Character’s Secret Identity Is Actually Still Secret

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-6.Concealed identities are an important part of superhero life, as some of the most iconic Marvel and DC characters have proven, but one Invincible character seems like they’re barely even trying, making their secret all the more baffling. While characters like Mark and Bulletproof wear headgear and go the extra mile to keep their identity hidden, the likes of Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Rae play things a little riskier, mainly because they have less to hide. However, whether intentionally or not, one character’s complete disregard when it comes to protecting their private life has become one of Invincible‘s funniest jokes.

After learning to become a hero and refining her powers throughout the first two installments, Atom Eve became one of Invincible‘s season 3’s strongest characters, but she still has one huge vulnerability. She has managed to save countless lives and get involved in some of the show’s biggest conflicts, all while keeping her identity under wraps, but I’m not quite sure how. Although she wears a superhero outfit and has her own alias, Eve doesn’t quite cover her tracks in the same way as Mark or some of her other allies, making her anonymity hard to comprehend.

Eve Doesn’t Hide Her Face Or Her Name While Fighting Crime

Atom Eve has developed plenty of qualities throughout the series, as her intellect, compassion, and unique skill set are some of the best in Invincible. However, subtly is far from her strong point. Other than recognizing his voice, most members of the public would have a hard time recognizing Invincible as Mark Grayson, as his mask and full-body costume give nothing away. On the other hand, not only does Atom Eve look almost identical to her regular persona, but her superhero alias uses part of her real name, making it even easier to identify her.

She isn’t the only one to do this, as Rex Splode and Dupli-Kate suffer largely the same problems, but their childhoods mean they barely have a life away from the superhero world, whereas Eve is a college student mingling with other civilians. She also set up Invincible Inc. as Samantha Eve Wilkins, before Atom Eve showed up to assist Invincible, reinforcing how simple it should be to make the connection. Despite all of this, she still seems to retain a regular balance between personal life and superhero work with barely anyone figuring out Eve Wilkins is actually a crime fighter.

Given how little effort she seems to put into concealing her identity, it seems puzzling that more people aren’t aware of this secret, especially after season 3, episode 6 made this information even more obvious.

A Hero That Looks Exactly Like One Of The Civilians At The Memorial Appearing Within Seconds Should Be A Giveaway

Having already done a pretty poor job of keeping her superhero persona incognito throughout Invincible, Eve’s actions at the Chicago memorial were a dead giveaway. Alongside the Graysons, Eve attended the event to pay her respects, having watched exactly how things went down, but she was quickly called into action when Powerplex arrived. Just moments after the spectators fled, Eve showed up to fight, which should have been an instant alarm for those in attendance. A young red-headed woman is sitting paying her respects, and moments later an almost identical superhero shows up. How convenient.

The swift nature of Eve going from civilian to hero is one of the most blatant examples yet of how clear the connection is, since it feels impossible for even the fastest of heroes to arrive on the scene that quickly, indicating that Atom Eve had to be near the event. To make matters worse, Eve and Mark’s Invincible romance means she could have exposed his identity as well since the two are extremely close in their regular lives and their superhero lives. She Seems To Have The Superman Effect, Where It’s So Obvious People Overlook Her Real Identity

Keeping her identity hidden from the public is a superpower itself, but Eve’s risky tactics have paid off, and I think I know why. Much like Clark Kent is never exposed as Superman – despite his regular appearance being a mirror image of his superhero persona – Eve’s secret likely survives through the same method. The resemblance may simply be too uncanny for people to notice, making them completely overlook her as a result. The public likely believes superheroes don’t use their real names as part of their alias, meaning Atom Eve wouldn’t actually be called Eve, right?

In theory, Eve’s anonymity may seem like a simple plot hole, but given Superman made Clark Kent’s identity secret an iconic trope, it’s possible Invincible has gone for the same approach. People would naturally assume their college classmates or close friends aren’t superheroes, and despite how much they might look like those they see on the news, they just don’t make the association. While Eve may want to cover her tracks a little better, especially with the likes of Angstrom Levy snooping around, her approach has worked so far in Invincible, and Eve’s identity remains the hero’s best-kept secret.
