Prince Harry has had a great reception at The Invictus Games in Canada as he flew out to join in the celebrations last weekend with Meghan Markle.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, was accompanied by his wife, 43, as they attended the opening ceremony on Saturday, with the couple having attended Invictus Games events together since the competition launched on February 8.
Despite having faced plenty of criticism this year globally for a number of reasons, including a damning Vanity Fair article, the prince and Meghan have both been in good spirits, even when finding themselves in awkward situations.
This includes a moment over the last few days when the prince was quizzed by an Invictus athlete about his royal credentials – an awkward topic considering he quit royal duty in 2020, fracturing some relationships with royal relatives in the wake of his decision.
As reported by The Mirror, Harry was asked whether he was a prince by an excited sportsman from the Ukrainian team before being asked: “Where is your crown?”
The duke reportedly laughed this off before embracing the competitor without mentioning anything else in relation to his royal status.
The question comes five years after Harry and Meghan quit their royal duties, leaving behind their UK home for a life in Montecito, California.
Since 2020, the couple have lived on a sprawling estate which they share with their two children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
The couple, who married in 2018, have also not been afraid to criticise their time in the Royal Family, with Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare – released in January 2023 – seemingly being the final straw when it came to his relationships with some royal relatives, including his brother Prince William.
Despite being asked these slightly awkward royal questions, the prince and Meghan appear to be enjoying their time in Canada at The Invictus Games, which Prince Harry is the founder of.
After flying in last weekend, the couple have attended a number of the events together, including the opening ceremony where Meghan and Harry put on a very loved up display.
The couple’s two children did not fly to Canada with them and are instead “cheering” Harry on from California, as confirmed by Meghan herself in a moving speech to her husband.
