There’s something incredibly delicate yet steadfast about the songs of our guest on World Cafe today. For the last 15 years, Ichiko Aoba has made otherworldly folk music that’s heavily inspired by nature.

The Japanese singer-songwriter has composed film soundtracks and even contributed music to “The Legend of Zelda” video game series.

She traveled to the Ryukyu Archipelago to capture field recordings for her latest album, Luminescent Creatures. Ichiko Aoba joins us today for a mini-concert recorded at the Paramount Theater in Denver playing songs from her catalog. Enjoy!

This episode of World Cafe was produced by Will Loftus. The web story was created by Miguel Perez. Our engineer is Chris Williams. Our programming and booking coordinator is Chelsea Johnson and our senior producer is Kimberly Junod.
