Ottawa police are asking for public assistance to identify a suspect involved in an attempted carjacking on March 13, 2025, in the 1900 block of Baseline Road.
The victim was returning to his parked vehicle at about 2:25 p.m. when he was approached by a man who demanded that he hand over the car keys. The suspect then assaulted the victim, striking him a number of times in the face.

During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a dark-coloured handgun and threatened to shoot the victim.
However, the suspect fled the scene without further attacks on the victim.
The suspect was last seen getting into the passenger seat of a black Nissan Rogue with no licence plates that sped away from the scene. He was described as a Middle Eastern man wearing a black balaclava, a black hooded top and red pants.
Meanwhile, in a separate news release Wednesday afternoon, police said five people, including two adult males and three youths, were arrested Tuesday night after an attempted carjacking.
The five were charged jointly charged with robbery and assault with intent to steal.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Carling Avenue. A victim walking to their vehicle was approached by the suspects, who brandished firearm in an attempt to steal the car.

Police said another similar carjacking, this one in the 1200 block of Carling Avenue. is also being investigated.
There were no further details are available on either carjacking event.
