Matthew Perry’s sister has spilled new details about the late actor’s funeral, sharing the heartbreaking final moments the Friends cast shared with Matthew.
In a three-part docuseries, The One About Matthew Perry, Mia revealed that all leading cast members of Friends, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, attended Matthew’s funeral, which took place six days after his death, and said their final goodbye by holding hands around his casket.
For those unversed, Matthew passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54 due to “acute effects of ketamine.”
In the doc, Mia Perry Bowick recalled, “The funeral was very small, close friends and family only. I remember sitting in the front row with our family and seeing his mom and all the other siblings.
“And then the rest of the Friends cast all walked in together.”
She continued, “I hadn’t seen them in easily 20 years.”
Mia further recalled, “Jen Aniston was the first one of them to come up to me and give me a huge hug, but they all did.”
“And then,” she added, “All five of them walked up to the casket holding hands, and just stood around him, crying.”
Following Matthew’s sudden death, the whole cast mourned the loss of their beloved costar in a joint statement.
It read, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.
“For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Later, each costar shared their separate tributes for Matthew.
