These high street perfumes rival Le Labo, YSL, Byredo and more

There’s a certain allure to buying luxury fragrances, but when high street alternatives are this similar, it’s hard to justify splurging on something you can’t even see.

Don’t get me wrong, I love luxury perfume – and I’ll always spritz one for date night. But for popping out the house or heading to the office, my high street scents are my best friends.

High street brands have recently been dominating the fragrance game, with new collections from Boots and M&S proving you don’t always need to break the bank to smell gorgeous. Their collections echo similar notes to much-loved luxury brands like Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Tom Ford – but for under £20.

If you’re after a new everyday fragrance, these are the ones that should be on your wishlist.

Alternative to: Yves Saint Laurent, Libre Eau De Parfum Intense 50ml: £119, Yslbeauty.co.uk

Easily one of the most complimented scents I’ve ever worn, Zara’s Golden Decade is an elegant yet fresh scent. The top notes of mandarin orange followed by heart notes of orange blossom, jasmine, and lavender create a floral amber fragrance. The base of vanilla warms and adds depth to the perfume, making it the perfect everyday scent. The fragrance profile is commonly known to be similar to Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau De Parfum Intense. While YSL’s fragrance may linger longer, the scents match harmoniously.

Apothecary’s Warmth Eau de Parfum is comfort in a bottle. The aromatic notes of cardamom,, cedarwood and sandalwood are shared by the beloved smoky, leathery and musky Le Labo Santal 33. While there are few perfumes I’d put in Le Labo’s league when it comes to wear, M&S in all other categories match it.

I can smell YSL Black Opium from a mile off; it’s one of those scents that is incredibly recognisable, yet I never get sick of it. So when M&S came out with Midnight Blossom, everyone knew where the inspiration had come from. The fragrances share notes of soft jasmine florals, with deeper, musky undertones. M&S’s perfume is an Eau De Toilette, meaning it will fade faster – but at £12 a bottle, spraying a little more often won’t bruise the bank.

Alternative to: Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 70ml: £265, Selfridges.com

Floral scents of Jasmine, saffron and aromas of Ambroxan are all present in both & Other Stories Déjà Vu Mood and Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540. The unique juxtaposition of warm woody scents and jasmine adds a mysterious element to the fragrance. The enveloping woody, ambery smell with a floral whisper, leaves you with a wearable fragrance that’s not too musky and not too sweet, similar to Baccarat Rouge 540. However, like the M&S perfume, this is an Eau De Toilette, so it may take a few more sprays to get the same punch Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrances pack.

Boots ‘Last Note’ collection, which was released last month, included many scents that echoed notes of luxury fragrances. Echoes of You provides that just stepped out the shower, clean but not overpowering smell. The opening notes of pink pepper and balm move seamlessly into iris, cashmere musk and the driving note, lily of the valley. The Boots fragrance evokes similar feelings to the slightly softer, Glossier You, which shares notes of Iris and Pink Pepper.
