Spain continues border checks on passengers from Italy
Since August 8th, Spanish National Police have carried out checks on 4,646 travellers from third countries who have arrived in Spain on 409 flights from Italy, within the framework of the random border controls established by Pedro Sánchez’s government in response to similar measures imposed by the Meloni administration.
This all comes in the context of the Ceuta migration crisis, which saw the Italian government react to what it considered to be a threat to the Schengen area and Italy’s borders.

The checks, which are random, affect passengers on flights from Italy who are nationals of countries outside the European Union. Their purpose is to verify the status of these travellers and detect any subsequent travel to Spain.
Child and pregnant mother killed in drive-by shooting in southern Spain
At least three people, including a pregnant woman and a minor, died Sunday night in a shooting in Isla Cristina (Huelva province, Andalusia), after two hooded men opened fire from a motorcycle and fled the scene, according to sources close to the investigation.
Spanish Civil Guard has taken charge of the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and try to identify the alleged perpetrators.
The triple murder may be related to another one that left one man dead and another wounded in 2024 in another shooting in Huelva.
The three murdered people were a woman, her young son, and her mother.

Most Spaniards believe elderly and young not cared enough by society
More than seventy percent of Spaniards believe that society does not adequately care for two of its most vulnerable groups: the elderly (72.9 percent) and young people (68.8 percent). The data show a broad and cross-cutting consensus across age, gender, and socioeconomic level.
This is according to the results of the global WIN World Survey 2026, which gathered the opinions of 44,000 people from 45 countries on key social issues, and which in Spain has been carried out by the DYM Institute for online news site 20minutos with 1,000 people .
The survey reveals that this perception that exists in Spain also extends globally, where older and younger people agree that society does not do enough for them, while two-thirds of the world’s population identify age discrimination as a serious problem.
Barcelona reach deal with Man City to sign Rodri
Barcelona have reached a deal with Manchester City to sign Spanish World Cup winner Rodri, a source from the Catalan club told AFP Sunday.
The 30-year-old midfielder will move for a fee of around €75 million ($87 million) according to reports.
“In the coming days there will be a statement and (the transfer) will become official,” said the Barcelona source.
Rodri had been linked with Real Madrid after Spain won the World Cup in July but Barcelona pushed to sign the former Atletico Madrid star, who has played a key part in Manchester City’s success since he joined in 2019.
The midfielder, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2024, has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons but shone as Spain won their second World Cup.
