British fashion chain with over 380 locations announces sudden closure of high street store leaving fans gutted

A BELOVED UK fashion chain with over 380 locations has announced the sudden closure of one of its high street stores, leaving fans gutted.

Bonmarché has abruptly shut its Bridport, Dorset location after just three years in the town.

Shoppers were disappointed to see a sign in the store’s window stating “we are closed”.

The chain has given no further information about the closure, and it’s not clear how many jobs have been impacted.

The store had only been open since summer 2023, when it took over from fashion chain M&Co.

The chain, which was founded in West Yorkshire in 1982, offers clothing aimed at older women in sizes 10-28.

Responding to the news, locals took to social media to share their devastation about the closure.

One wrote on Facebook: “Oh no, get most of my clothes in there. So sorry for the staff they are lovely and very helpful.”

Another said: “What a shame! Both for the lovely staff and for Bridport, which is gradually losing it’s reputation of being a lovely little town – more like a ghost town.”

It’s not the first closure for the chain this year, after a Bonmarché store in Birchwood Shopping Centre in Warrington, Cheshire shut its doors in March.

The retailer has fallen into administration several times in the last 15 years owing to financial struggles, and is now part of the Purepay Retail/Edinburgh Woollen Mill group.

Bonmarché was contacted by The Sun for comment.
