The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated July 22. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) dared to hope after meeting another one of Dr Caitlin Todd’s (Caroline Harker) victims in Emmerdale.

After learning from DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) that the CPS would be dropping the case against Dr Todd, a devastated Charity believed her fight for justice was over.

Determined to help his wife, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) told Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) that they should work together to find more evidence that proves Dr Todd has other victims.

Their plan saw Vanessa head to the hospital to see Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), who Caitlin relentlessly bullied. The duo then met with HR rep Carol. While she wasn’t able to directly confirm anything about Dr Todd, Carol helped Vanessa and Jacob by leaving a document on the printer about the surgeon.

Vanessa picked it up and found a woman called Helen afterwards. Once Charity arrived, the two women listened as Helen explained that Dr Todd sexually assaulted her.

Charity and Vanessa gently encouraged Helen to speak out, believing that there would be a higher chance of Todd getting convicted if another victim reported their ordeal.

Helen was in the village during today’s episode. At Jacobs Fold, she chatted to Charity about her life, and how much it was impacted by the horror Dr Todd put her through.

Charity hoped in her heart that their conversation would lead to Helen confirming that she would go to the police. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

Helen explained that she didn’t want to revisit the nightmare in her past, and wants to focus on moving forward and healing. Charity was heartbroken, but completely understood what Helen was saying.

After Helen left, Charity wasn’t able to hold her emotions in any longer. She broke down in tears, absolutely exhausted by everything she’s been through.

The chat didn’t end the way Charity had wanted, but meeting Helen has helped her feel less alone.

Dr Todd won’t face police consequences for her actions, so how will Charity get justice?
