Arttitude and Cedar Springs Merchants Assn. announce mural campaign for the Gayborhood

Public art will increase on Cedar Springs thanks to two organizations. Last week, the arts collective Arttitude, in collaboration with the Cedar Springs Merchants Association (CSMA), announced the launch of Walls of Pride, a two-year public art campaign that will bring seven murals to Cedar Springs Road. Title Walls of Pride, the initiative is designed to celebrate the legacy, visibility, resilience and spirit of the community while preserving the stories that have shaped Dallas LGBTQ+ history and culture.

Over the next two years, the campaign will support artists, activate public spaces and
create lasting works of art that can inspire residents and visitors. Each mural will contribute to cultural preservation connecting the area deeper to its queer history.

Specific sites have yet to be announced.

“These murals are about more than beautifying a space,” Arttitude’s Jerome Larez said in the press release. “They are about preserving community memory, celebrating LGBTQ culture, and creating visible reminders that our stories matter and deserve to be seen.”

According to both organizations, the Walls of Pride will help:

  • Honor and preserve Dallas LGBTQ history and culture;
  • celebrate Cedar Springs as a place of pride and belonging;
  • support artists and public art in the community and
  • strengthen the neighborhood as a destination for culture, connection, and visibility.

“This campaign reflects the heart of Oak Lawn,” CSMA President Kevin Miller stated in the release. “It is about honoring the past, celebrating the present and investing in a future where art continues to tell the story of this community.”

Arttitude’s mission is to amplify underrepresented queer and trans voices through creative expression. CSMA supports and promotes the businesses, culture and community spirit through public works and special events like the popular monthly Wine Walk.

Donations and sponsorships are welcome to support the campaign. Contributions will support artist commissions, mural production and installation. Contributions can be made here.
