Sinner ends Novak’s run, reaches second straight Wimbledon Final – Novak Djokovic

Top seed Jannik Sinner defeated seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Friday, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to reach The Championships final for the second year in a row.

The Italian played a very solid match on Centre Court and sealed the victory after two hours and 20 minutes.

Sinner now leads their H2H record 7-5, while their Wimbledon record is tied at 2-2.

Just three days after playing the longest Wimbledon quarter-final in history and a magnificent triumph against Felix Auger-Aliassime, Novak was unable to find his rhythm against an in-form Sinner.

The Italian broke Djokovic’s serve once in each set, which proved enough for a convincing victory. The 24-time Grand Slam titlist had only one break point during the match, but failed to convert it.

“I was just half a step late basically in any shot. It’s very simple as that,” said Djokovic. “He was just a level or more better than I was. I was not sharp enough, not reactive enough, not balanced enough to play him. That’s it. There was not much I could do on the court. I’d like to come back, at least one more time. Last year I reached four Slam semi-finals, and this year I’ve reached one final and one semi-final in three Majors. For 99% of players, that would be fantastic. For me it’s good, but not enough. I’m both blessed and cursed to be used to the highest level of results and achievements.”

Statistics: aces (8-16), double faults (3-0), winners (26-40), unforced errors (23-15), total points won (81-103).

Sinner will face Alexander Zverev in the final of this year’s Wimbledon.
