“In The Middle Of Things” by Artist Adrian Kay Wong

New paintings from Los Angeles-based artist Adrian Kay Wong. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, Wong received his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work captures subtle narratives and interactions from the seemingly incidental moments of the everyday, often interwoven with his own memories and cultural identity. He also explores dualities inherent to daily experience: intimacy and estrangement, transience and permanence, belonging and isolation.

In his latest solo exhibition, “In The Middle of Things”, Wong creates carefully composed scenes that linger in the space between observation and memory. Turning his attention toward the moments that often go unnoticed, the paintings invite viewers to dwell in the possibilities that exist between what has happened and what may come next. The show’s title refers to in media res—a storytelling technique in which a narrative begins in the middle of the action. Figures appear suspended, caught in ways that feel both deeply personal and universally familiar.

“In The Middle of Things” is on display at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York City until July 11th.
