Sinner Vaporises Zverev To Win Madrid Title

Day Twelve at the Mutua Madrid Open brought the tournament to a close with a dominant performance from Jannik Sinner, who dismantled Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 to claim his first Madrid title and make history in the process.

The World No. 1 was in ruthless form from the first point, barely giving Zverev any chances as he cruised to victory in just 58 minutes.

With this win, Sinner became the first player in history to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles. Here is a recap, match stats and the highlights (which TennisTV have somehow made into an 8 minute clip)

Jannik Sinner produced a ruthless, near-perfect performance to win the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open title, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets and making history in the process.

The World No. 1 was in complete control from the first point, breaking early and maintaining relentless pressure with his trademark depth and precision. Zverev struggled to find any rhythm or answers, and Sinner raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set before closing it out 6-1.

The second set followed a similar pattern; Sinner broke for 2-1 and again for 5-2, serving out the match to love in just 58 minutes.

Sinner did not face a single break point in the final and won an astonishing 93% of points behind his first serve.

With this victory, Sinner became the first player in history to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles, extending his winning streak at this level to 28 matches and leaving only Rome to complete the Career Golden Masters.

Sinner has now won the last nine matches between the pair, and it is tricky to see when or where Zverev can break that streak.

It definitely won’t be on clay, as even though that is Zverev’s best surface, he cannot take the racket out of Sinner’s hands on the dirt, so a quick indoor hard court where he plays hyper aggressively is the only realistic shot.

For the final itself, there is very little to analyse; it was over after the first couple of games.

Sinner’s hold game is super solid, and going up an early break against an opponent who has lost eight times in a row against you is a dream start.

What could Zverev have done differently? I’m really not sure, as Jannik has a big mental edge now. I thought Sascha made a few cheap errors, but realistically, they’d only have netted him a couple more games, at best.

I think there is a lot of work behind it. A lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. Obviously, it means a lot to me, seeing these results. At some point, results are going to be down, which is normal. I’m very happy that I’ve continued to believe in myself. I’m showing up every day, at every practice session, trying to put in the right work with the right discipline. To do so, you need to have the right team behind you, which I have. I’m very happy about me, but also the team, and this means a lot to all of us. Sinner on his win.
