Inquest opens into model Charlie Edwards’ death as ex-girlfriend Emily Atack pays tribute

Charlie was described by the Rivals and Inbetweeners star as being ‘funny, smart, talented and caring’

An inquest has opened into the tragic death of renowned tattoo artist and model Charlie Edwards.

Following his death on March 24, a tribute was paid to the 26-year-old by his former girlfriend and actor Emily Atack. The Rivals and Inbetweeners star described Charlie as ‘funny, smart, talented and caring’.

She shared a picture of her and Charlie, from Grimsby, on Instagram and said: “Charlie you were my friend. You were always there for me. You dropped everything so many times to come and be with me.

“We talked for hours on end on the phone about absolutely everything. We helped each other. You were funny, so smart, so talented and caring. I can only hope and pray that you have found some peace.”

She added: “My heart breaks for your family who will forever be so proud of you. Beautiful boy, beautiful soul. I’m so so sorry. Rest in peace Charlie.”

The inquest into his death was formally opened at Grimsby Town Hall before Assistant Coroner for Greater Lincolnshire, Jane Eatock. She said the self-employed tattoo artist was discovered at a studio on Wilton Road in Humberston on March 24, Grimsby Live reports.

The coroner added that the cause of death was ‘yet to be determined’. The assistant coroner opened and adjourned the inquest to a date in September.

A funeral service will be held to celebrate Charlie’s life on Friday, May 1. Floral tributes are welcomed, and donations can be made to The Andy’s Man Club or The Fisherman’s Mission via their respective websites.

Charlie previously ran a business alongside his brother Jack, called Ravens Retreat, and campaigned to remove the stigma surrounding body art. Having featured in the Grimsby Telegraph during his relationship with Atack, Charlie, who had more than 200k followers on Instagram, encouraged people to consider getting their chosen artwork on their bodies as a means of self-expression.

The celebrated artist, whose work caught the attention of US rapper Post Malone, had tattoos across all his limbs and torso. Charlie told the Grimsby Telegraph: “Some people are wary that having a tattoo might affect them getting jobs.”

He added that there was less stigma surrounding tattoos, and that he always ensures the client being tattooed has chosen their design themselves, allowing them to discuss exactly what they want. He said: “I never do walk-ins or people that you see having drunken holiday tattoos and possibly regret it later.”
