When Tessa & Mariah’s Love Story Was Still Intact
Back in May 2023, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) had been MIA, taking care of her & Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) adopted daughter, Aria. After her time away, she & Mariah reconnected in a suite at the GCAC. The chemistry was still there. The love was still there. They were building a family together.
Young & the Restless fans were invested in this couple. They’d watched Tessa & Mariah fall in love, get married in Y&R’s first lesbian wedding at the Top of the Tower & navigate the challenges of adoption together. This was a relationship that felt earned, real, & worth rooting for.
Tessa clearly had a future in Genoa City. What happened with her modeling role at Marchetti? Wasn’t Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) open to taking on Tessa as an opening act for his upcoming tour? Tessa had career opportunities, a loving wife, & a beautiful daughter. Everything was in place for her character to thrive.
Fast Forward: Tessa Sleeps With Daniel
Now, Tessa Porter just had sex with Genoa City’s most valuable unemployed bachelor, Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei).

Seriously, if Tessa was going to explore relationships with men again, could she have at least picked someone with a job? Someone with a storyline? Daniel has been literally strumming a guitar, either in Chancellor Park or at Crimson Lights, full-time, while his daughter Lucy Romalotti (Lily Brooks O’Briant) babysits Tessa’s daughter, Aria. Has Daniel forgotten about his daughter, also?
So What Is Y&R’s Tessa Porter? Lesbian or Bisexual?
Here’s the thing—this is actually a legitimate question for Young & the Restless fans. Is Tessa a lesbian, or is she bisexual? There’s nothing wrong with either identity, but the show needs to clarify this for the character.
Tessa dated Noah Newman before she fell in love with Mariah. If she’s bisexual, that’s valid & could have been an interesting storyline to explore thoughtfully. But instead, the writers seem to have just… forgotten about her marriage? Abandoned the love story they built for years? Tossed aside Mariah & Aria for unemployed Daniel & his guitar?
What Happened to Mariah & Aria?
The real victims here are Mariah Copeland & their daughter Aria. Mariah has been through so much on this show—kidnapping, surrogacy drama, finally finding happiness with Tessa, & building a family. Now what? Her wife is sleeping with Daniel, and Aria’s family is falling apart.
Young & the Restless fans are asking: Where is Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) in all of this? How is Mariah handling this betrayal? What happens to Aria when her mothers split up?
Y&R Wasted Another Great Love Story
Just two years ago, Tessa & Mariah were reconnecting in that GCAC suite, completely in love & committed to their family. Now their love story is in shambles, replaced by Tessa hooking up with Daniel in what feels like a random, poorly thought-out plot twist.
Young & the Restless had something special with Tessa & Mariah. They had chemistry. They had history. They had a daughter… & the writers threw it all away for… what exactly? So Daniel could have something to do besides play guitar?
If the plan was always for Tessa to be bisexual & explore relationships with men again, fine—but earn it. Show us the journey. Don’t just have her jump into bed with the first unemployed guy she runs into at Crimson Lights.
Tessa Porter deserves better. Mariah Copeland deserves better… & Young & the Restless fans who invested in this relationship for years also deserve better.
