Zverev’s serve proved decisive throughout, as he unleashed 24 aces and saved all three break points he faced, often with unreturned deliveries that kept Tien at bay.
He dominated the shorter rallies in particular, allowing him to dictate terms and hit freely on return.
The match turned on a pivotal second-set tiebreak, where Tien rallied from 3-5 down to steal the set with four straight points, momentarily putting Zverev under real pressure.
The German responded emphatically in the third, rolling through a 6-1 set to regain full control, before the fourth set again tested his nerve.
Tien pushed to another tiebreak, but Zverev raced out to a commanding 6-0 lead. A single double fault at that stage—the only one he hit all match added some intrigue, yet he sealed the win on the next point to close out the victory.
The German’s serve was the difference maker, and without that, he’d be in trouble, as Tien is super steady from the baseline; he hangs in every rally, can hit down the line, and also creates some very nice angles with shorter groundstrokes.
Tien is at career-high No. 24 in the live rankings, and has a natural, precise, patient style that is probably going to be a factor at most events this season, especially if Chang can make some small improvements.
Learner from the baseline was playing unbelievable. I don’t think I’ve played anyone who plays that well from the baseline for a very long time. Without my [24] aces, I probably would not have won today. I’m obviously very happy with my serve, just generally happy to be back in the semis Zverev on his win.

The world No. 1 and top seed delivered a commanding 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 victory in two hours and 15 minutes, extending his perfect Head2Head record against de Minaur to 6-0.
The match went exactly as I expected, with De Minaur offering a lot of court coverage, but Alcaraz’s weight of shot and anticipation taking over in the big moments.
The opening set was the most competitive, with five breaks of serve, as de Minaur showcased his more attacking mindset, hitting back from early deficits of 0-3 and 3-5, stepping inside the baseline to dictate points and avoid being pushed back.
However, Alcaraz found his rhythm and shifted into a higher gear, suffocating de Minaur with relentless baseline power and precise ball striking that left little room for counterattack.
Pre-tournament, I was wondering how Carlos would get on without Ferrero in his box, but he’s been A-OK and has probably played more consistently than I’ve ever seen him. Was Ferrero creating vibes in the camp akin to his 2002 French Open final? 😆 Too early to tell, of course, but Alcaraz is showing no signs of needing him as a court-side advisor.
I’m just really happy with the level that I’m playing every match, since the first round. I’ve been increasing my level each match. I was talking with my team about being patient, because I want all the things right now. But they told me to be patient, that the level will come. Today I felt really comfortable, playing great tennis, which I’m really proud about. Alcaraz on his win.
