Friday night at Flushing Meadows delivered exactly what many expected and wanted. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the top two seeds and dominant forces of the season, booked their spots in the US Open final with contrasting but equally compelling wins.
Sinner was tested by a resurgent Felix Auger-Aliassime, who pushed him harder than anyone else this fortnight, but the World No. 1’s defensive grit and big-point clarity saw him through in four sets.
Across the net, Alcaraz produced a commanding performance to dismiss Novak Djokovic in straight sets, extending his perfect run in New York without dropping a set.
The result sets up the blockbuster final everyone predicted and a rematch of their Wimbledon classic earlier this summer, with both form and history on the line.

Jannik Sinner def. Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Jannik Sinner secured his 300th career win and a spot in his second US Open final with a hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday night.
The World No. 1 navigated a gritty three-hour, 19-minute battle on Arthur Ashe Stadium, saving nine of 10 break points against a resurgent Aliassime.
I didn’t give Felix much of a chance heading into the match, but he completely outperformed my expectations.
The first set was all Sinner, but from there, Auger-Aliassime got right into it, and his second set blitz coincided with Sinner struggling with an abdominal problem, which required treatment with an off-court medical timeout after Felix had levelled.
Upon resumption, his serve didn’t look too clever, but he held and began to wrestle back control with a crucial break for 4-2 before capturing the set.
The fourth set saw Auger-Aliassime’s net-rushing tactics yield five break points across Sinner’s first two service games, but the top seed’s defence held firm.
I think if Felix broke at 2-1, 30-40, then this one goes five sets, where anything can happen, but Sinner was again too solid
Felix and I played the last tournament, and he is a completely different player. He was serving much better, hitting every shot much better. So it was a very tough match today, but obviously I’m very, very happy. Sinner on Auger-Aliassime’s resurgence.

Carlos Alcaraz def. Novak Djokovic, 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2

Carlos Alcaraz stormed into his second US Open final with a commanding 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Novak Djokovic, avenging losses at the Australian Open and Paris Olympics.
The 22-year-old Spaniard is yet to drop a set in New York, and overpowered the 24-time major champion in their two-hour, 25-minute clash.
Despite his record and what we know Novak is capable of, based on what I’d seen in New York, I didn’t give him much chance here. He’s looked tired physically, and despite his stellar H2H record with Carlos, he hasn’t faced the Spaniard’s much-improved serve this season.
Alcaraz set the tone early, breaking Djokovic in the opening game with a blistering crosscourt forehand. That rapid start meant Novak never really settled, and his backhand looked tentative for the most part, and he wasn’t able to strike off that wing with a lot of conviction.
The second set got interesting with Alcaraz clawing back from 0-3 down after some Nole magic to break, but after levelling with a flicked forehand winner, the tiebreak saw him dominate with inside-out forehands, closing with a 90-mph backhand down the line.
Djokovic, hampered by shoulder issues requiring physio treatment, faded in the third, double-faulting to gift a break at 1-2 and from there it was all over.
I thought Novak was competitive, with some great gets and individual points, but Alcaraz wasn’t pushed on serve, and it always looked like he was in control from the baseline and he is simply just the better player at this point in their respective careers.
I’m happy with my level of tennis, but it’s just the physicality of it. As I said after the quarter-finals, the press conference when I spoke to you guys, I said I’m going to do my very best to get my body in shape to sustain that level and that rhythm for as many hours as it’s needed. But it wasn’t enough. That’s something I, unfortunately at this point in time in my career, can’t control. It comes with time and with age. I still enjoy the thrill of competition. Today I received amazing support again on the court from the crowd. Very thankful for that. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Yeah, that’s one of the biggest reasons why I keep on going. The love that I’ve been getting around the world has been amazing the last couple of years. It will be very difficult for me in the future to overcome the hurdle of Sinner, Alcaraz, in the best-of-five on the Grand Slams. I think I have a better chance in best of three, but best of five, it’s tough. I’m not giving up on Grand Slams in that regard, having said that. I’m going to continue fighting and trying to get to the finals and fight for another trophy at least. But it’s going to be a very difficult task. Djokovic on where he’s at.
