The ongoing transfer saga involving Alexander Isak has severely soured relationships as the striker, Newcastle’s best player in a generation, has gone on strike in an attempt to force through what he believes was a promised summer exit.
Liverpool have seen one bid worth £110million rejected, and are expected to return with at least one more before next week’s transfer deadline.
But, for now, Isak is in exile as Newcastle look to beat the Premier League champions again, five months on from their Carabao Cup victor over the same team which ended their 70-year trophy drought.
