Ja Morant’s confrontation with Memphis Grizzlies head coach Tumoas Iisalo on Friday night had been brewing for several days, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
“There’s been tension for the last several days around Ja Morant and his feelings toward first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo’s rotation patterns and plays. But it really culminated after and during the loss to the Lakers on Friday night.
“In the post-game locker room, Morant and Iisalo had an exchange where Iisalo called out Morant’s leadership and effort in front of the whole team. And as teammates and staffers all looked on, Morant responded with what the team deemed as an inappropriate and dismissive way,” reported Charania.
Morant was suspended for one game and is expected to rejoin the team on Monday after serving the suspension on Sunday against the Raptors.
Charania adds that teams around the league are monitoring Morant’s situation with the Grizzlies.
“Teams across the league…are monitoring this, keeping an eye on where this relationship stands between Ja Morant and the Grizzlies,” added Charania.
